Modal Transmission-Line Theory for Photonic Crystals

Engelsk
While studies of the scattering and guiding properties of photonic structures date back to over a century ago, extensive research in this area continues to this day. To facilitate the applications on optoelectronic devices, a three dimensional photonic crystal is formulated using a rigorous modal field representation. Such a modal solution can be represented in terms of electrical transmission-line networks by suitably generalizing ideas and concepts used in conventional circuits. This book provides valuable insights and systematic algorithm to study the guiding and scattering characteristics of multilayered photonic crystals containing dielectric and metallic materials. To illustrate the usage of such a method on different photonic structures, four separate applications are presented including anti-reflection surfaces, light emitting diodes, solar-selective membranes and quantum-well infrared photodetectors. The developed theory should be especially useful to professionals in electromagnetic modeling, photonic crystals and optoelectronic devices.
