A lonely little old man and woman wanted a kitten, so the man went out to find one. But he found not one, not ten, but millions and billions of cats He couldn't decide which one was the best, so he brought all of them home. Having millions of cats doesn't turn out the way the old man thought it would, but in the end the old man and woman end up with the prettiest, most perfect cat of all.

Published in 1928, Millions of Cats is an American classic, the first modern picture book. It received the 1929 Newbery Honor Award and has sold more than a million copies.
