This is John Cleland's controversial 1749 novel, "e;Memoirs of Fanny Hill"e;. John Cleland (1709 - 1789) was an English novelist most famous for writing "e;Fanny Hill: or, the Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure"e;. Other notable works by this author include: "e;Memoirs of a Coxcomb"e; (1751), "e;The Surprises of Love"e; (1764), and "e;The Woman of Honour"e; (1768). This book was undertaken by Cleland while he was incarcerated in in Fleet Prison due to an unpaid debt. The novel was published in two instalments, in November 1748 and February 1749. He was released from prison in March of that year. However, in November 1749, Cleland was once more arrested, as were the publishers and the printer of "e;Fanny Hill"e;. He himself said that he wished that the book be "e;buried and forgot"e;. The book was then officially withdrawn, and not legally published again for more than a hundred years. This volume will appeal to those with an interest in vintage erotic literature, and it would make for a worthy addition to allied collections. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality, edition complete with the original text and artwork.
