The novel interweaves dreams and nightmares, eerie encounters and strange occurrences in the everyday life of writer and professor Carl Frank. Then suddenly his deceased father sits down next to him. The two engage in intense, empathetic conversations about life before and, above all, after death. When the father asks his son to go with him to the moorland where Carl's novel about the destruction of the environment is set, they embark on a journey that ultimately leads them to the realm of the dead: a parallel world full of contradictions and devoid of logic. Billions of shadows fear the erasure of their memories. Carl meets his deceased wife, his mother, and friends. In the end, he does not return to his old life right away, but spends several years in the Middle Ages...
