There is something peaceful and serene about the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Away from I-95’s busy metropolitan corridor, the region’s tranquil and picturesque towns reveal glimpses of history dating back to colonial days in their architecture and festivals and fairs. 

First occupied by Native Americans and then colonized by the English, this portion of Maryland has been fertile ground for farming, hunting, and fishing for generations. Ninety photographs capture the history, culture, and scenes of many towns and villages that have grown along the region’s waterways and marshes. Full-color images of quaint towns and fishing villages, waterfowl and crabs, historic churches and graveyards, and boats out on the water bring this unique area to life for visitors, armchair travelers, lifelong residents, and all who love the region.
