Maine

The place that Ferdinando Gorges long ago named Maine, on the far northeastern edge of the nation, is today much the same as it was then: the knife-edge of Mount Katahdin; the flatlands of Aroostook; Sebago Lake; the islands of Casco Bay. But to author Charles E. Clark and those who, like him, have lived there, the history of the place called Maine is really the history of people's images of it; and, as this book shows, those images have changed greatly.
