The journey of the wonderful book by Salama Mousa takes us to the heart of "Little Egypt", Fayoum, the charming city located southwest of Cairo. The book delves into the depths of Fayoum''s history, from its early beginnings to the end of the nineteenth century. The book consists of five sections, the first of which begins by revealing the secrets of naming, origin, and development until the reign of Muhammad Ali Pasha the Great. The second section deals with the series of events that Fayoum witnessed under the rule of the Alawite dynasty, while the third section reveals the famous Fayoum personalities, including scholars, writers, and virtuous people. In the last section of the book, the author translates his most prominent contemporaries, presenting personal portraits of them. The fourth section deals with the geography of Fayoum, including its location, cities and villages, and distinctive natural, urban and industrial landmarks, in addition to its population, agriculture and trade.
