Literature and Literary Theory

Philosophy, history, journalism and legal and scientific writings traditionally ranked as literature. The term English literature refers to literature written in the English language, including literature composes in English by writers not necessarily from England; Joseph Conrad was Polish, Robert Burns was Scottish, James Joyce was Irish, Salman Rushdie is Indian etc. In other words, English literature is as diverse as the varieties and dialects of English spoken around the world. A literary techniques or literary devices may be used by works of literature in order to produce a specific effect on the reader.
