Leaning into the Future: The Gospel According to the Old Testament

"They let Jesus in, but they took away his Bible." These are the opening words of this book which contends that Christians often miss the boat when they read only the New Testament or when the Old Testament is no longer read in worship services.

The Old Testament, after all, was the Bible of the early church and was, indeed, Jesus' Bible as well as that of Peter, John, Paul, and the other followers of Christ. If you really want to understand Jesus, you need to understand his Bible. And there is more.

The Old Testament actually contains gospel - good news - of its own, starting with God declaring that all of creation is very good, to the Exodus - even to the forgotten introduction of the Ten Commandments. And then there are the darker questions of God's "jealousy," of slavery, and of the place of women, none of which turn out to be as dark as many have imagined as the Old Testament leans into the future.
