Matti Salminen's evocative new collection draws from nature and his own personal journey as inspiration. Salminen uses everything from the brilliant blaze of the sun to the dark depths of the ocean to explain his unique perspective and creative intention. Salminen engages in what it means to be not only a writer but also a poet. As he writes in one poem, "I've lost myself to writing." Salminen describes the creative process of being swallowed by his own thoughts. He blends this inward analysis with outward expression to create a series of direct and candid works.

As a member of Mad Pride-a movement among psychiatric survivors-Salminen discusses his own struggles with mental health and his progress. His work raises awareness for issues that are too often swept under the rug. Salminen embraces his journey as part of his identity and, quite fittingly, speaks about his growth with pride. His work shows both the devastating lows and striking highs of a life both lived and examined.
