The general story of that weary search for the lost expedi tion, fruitless till the last forlorn hope, was told at the time so fully by many hands, that it is only necessary now to give a brief abstract of it, for the convenience of the reader, and for the better understanding of the origin and object of the particular expedition herein narrated.
