John: Gospel of the Beloved

This book has been called many things: the book of the seven signs (referring to the seven sign-miracles John uses to present the person and mission of Jesus); the intimate gospel; the most theological of the four gospels; the most profound book ever written; and the greatest piece of literature ever produced. According to F.B. Meyer, "there is no part of Scripture more conducive to the culture of the inner life." And Warren Wiersbe so beautifully directs us in our approach to this profound work by saying, "come to this book with the heart and mind of a worshiper." We might reverently add to this thought that as we enter the Gospel of John, we are standing on holy ground.
