Islamic Society and Culture

This book commemorates the memory of Aziz Ahmad (1913-78), a distinguished historian of Muslim life and culture in this century. Edited by two of his colleagues at the University of Toronto, where Aziz Ahmad was Professor of Islamic Studies, the book brings together twenty essays by his colleagues and friends who are all themselves eminent Islamicists and historians of South Asia. Each essay included here also focuses on themes reflecting Professor Aziz Ahmad' own varied interests in history, literature, language, culture and inter-relations between communities. Together these essays con­stitute a substantial contribution to the growing literature on Islamic?culture?and?society?in?South?Asia.
