Alongside its remarkable literary, artistic, and cultural wealth, Iran, with approximately one percent of the world's population and one percent of the world's landmass, is a land abundant in natural resources, energy, and minerals, ranking fifth globally in total resources. Moreover, despite its vast deserts, which possess their own unique beauty, much of Iran is covered by the lush Hyrcanian, Zagros, and Arasbaran forests, as well as magnificent pastures and fertile plains. With at least 5,000 years of civilization, Iran's history is divided into three major periods: Ancient History, Classical Antiquity, and the Post-Islamic Era.
