When marauding gang members snatch Karen Flannigan off the streets of LA during the Rodney King riots, the police are too distracted by wholesale chaos to respond. Her fianc , Max Singer, decides to stage his own daring rescue. Max, a twenty-nine year old hedge fund manager and black belt in the ancient Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do, pursues Karen through the anarchy of a burning city at war with itself. He enlists the aid of his fellow martial artists, including his best friend, in his desperate quest.
