Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The text Which I have followed is that of Baiter and Orelli, as revised by Meiser in his recent edition: the ms. On which this text is based - the Medicean is generally referred to as M. Very many of the explanatory notes have been suggested to me by the excellent commentary of Heraus: I trust that I am hereby tendering a sufficient acknowledgment of the assistance thence derived. Mr. Furneaux' edition of the Annals has rendered it unnecessary for me to call special and separate attention - except in the notes - to peculiarities of Tacitean grammar.
