Historical Sketch of Bookbinding

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The chier part of the present book was written as an Introduction to the Catalogue of the Exhibition of Bind ings, held at the Burlington Fine Arts Club in the Summer of 1891. In consequence of the growing interest in Binding it has been thought that an enlarged reprint of the Intro duction might be useful to students, since information on the subject is only to be found scattered up and down expensive illustrated works, most of which are no longer obtainable.
