Austria’s capital receives a new transport hub: The Vienna Central Railroad Station.
The book introduces the railroad station, with essays, planning drafts and photographs. It gives the reader a documentation that offers insights into the construction and operational phases of the stations as well as a look back at the existing structures before construction.
The construction of Vienna Central Station also led to a fundamental transformation of the urban area between Wiedner Gürtel, Arsenalstraße, Gudrunstraße and Sonnwendgasse. The books shows the first parts of these changes in the Belvedere neighborhood, the ÖBB headquarters and the Erste Campus, as well as the residential and the educational campus in the Sonnwendviertel area, including vistas of future projects. Sigi Herzog’s photographs as well as historical views complement photographs by Roman Bönsch. A site plan and planning graphics of the rail lines and construction phases round off this generous and representative illustrated volume.
