Beginning with the surrender of Allied forces in the Philippines on May 4, 1942, The Hard Way Home chronicles Braly's imprisonment first in Manila, then northward to camps in Luzon, Taiwan, Japan, and Manchuria. The Hard Way Home was prepared from 34 journals kept by Braly during his time as a prisoner, and are held today in the U.S. Army Military History Institute, Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Includes 10 pages of illustrations.
