Guildford's Hidden History

Numerous pictorial histories of Guildford have been published in the past, and so too have many local histories on a wide variety of subjects. Our town centre and the landscape around us still hold many secrets, and ‘Guildford’s Hidden History’ reveals some of the less familiar aspects of our past. We explore the High Street and a hidden air raid shelter, pagan hill tops, dragons and the secrets of St Martha’s, our medieval royal deer park, its manor house and landscape, the hidden valley of Tyting and a lost house, secret wartime operations and a prisoner-of-war camp, memories of the Templars and horse racing at Merrow.
