Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Essays in especial have been largely rewritten and all have been, so far as practicable, brought to date. The essay on Blois is the only one of the series which now makes its first appeal to the public. Perhaps, in their present con secutive form, these papers may have enough of symmetrical unity to secure for the archi tectural matters of which they treat a more intelligent popular interest than could be obtained by any sort of disconnected publica.
