In the salt-rich valleys of Saltville, Virginia, Jacklyn lives quietly, unaware she carries the bloodline of a Queen. Descended from the Yuchi people-ancient stewards of the land and helpers of dragons-she is one of two born to feed the golden barrier that protects Grandel Isle and Earth.
As the beloved Queen begins fading, and the golden shield weakens, the Darkness commences her hunt. Contagions rise-creatures born of fire and shadow, invaders of minds, travelers between worlds. With the Enchained at their side, they have a singular purpose: capture the new Queen after she accepts who she is. For only then can the Darkness claim her.
Three trained Protectors await the call, bound by oath and tradition. A tournament will decide who will guard the Queen when she awakens.
