Georgia and the Modern Civil Rights Movement

This book explores the role the state of Georgia and prominent Georgians played in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Specific events in the state, such as the election of Maynard Jackson as mayor of Atlanta, have resulted in more integrated schools and diverse government offices. Students will be able to relate this movement back to the progression of U.S. history involving famous figures such as Herman Talmadge, Benjamin Mays, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic photographs and primary sources bring this fundamental topic to life.
