In our complex world, mental health issues often underlie some of the behavioral challenges observed in children. Educators believe that one of their chief roles is to "e;bring children out into the world"e; but when a child is hospitalized, this opportunity is lost. It then becomes the task of insightful therapeutic staff to "e;bring the world inside, to the children"e;. This is a story about hope and healing... and how the vulnerability of a tiny creature elicited empathy and ultimately created a cohesive community of care.
