Finfish and Shellfish diversity

Fish is the primary source of animal protein for billions of people around the world. Many coastal and inland populations in India rely on fish as the most accessible source of animal protein. Creeks are important because of their fisheries, which support thousands of fishing families that have resided in the nearby settlements. The Kandaleru River rises in the Velikonda range of the eastern ghats of Andhra Pradesh at an elevation of around 150 meters and flows in a generally easterly direction through the Nellore district for a total length of 93 kms to fall into the Bay of Bengal near Muthukur. The conservation of global biodiversity is largely constrained by the lack of comprehensive information. Hence, the urgent need of the hour is to document all the life forms of different habitats before they get altered or destructed or extinct. Moreover, knowledge on biodiversity of a particular region is a must, in order to formulate appropriate conservation strategies.
