Far from Vietnam is a coming of age story that concerns, Ann, an American student living in Paris in the mid-1960s, who discovers herself first as a woman and then as a political activist. Her journey involves other American expatriates and their complicated relationship with French society, her travels to the former Yugoslavia and Greece, which are preludes to her involvement in organizing the first demonstration against the Viet Nam War in Paris, and ultimately to a trip to Cuba, where she sees socialism in action.
