Epigenetics is the science that studies the chemical mechanisms that regulate the expression or silencing of genes without altering the DNA sequence, and involves genetic influence and environmental factors.Cancer is a disease considered in 2020 by the WHO as the leading cause of death in the world, and is caused by various factors that cause some cells in the body to multiply uncontrollably.Epigenetic mechanisms regulate the chemistry of DNA and its associated proteins called histones. The present review aims to generate in the reader, a significant scientific understanding to provide a current overview of breast cancer and its causes at the level of epigenetic regulation that can be diagnosed by molecular methodologies.
