Arthur Parnassus is content with the life he has built upon the ashes of his past. As the director of an orphanage on a peculiar and remote island, he is surrounded by the love of his life, Linus Baker--a former official of the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. Together, they hope to adopt the six magical and dangerous children who call the island home. The task is challenging, but Arthur loves these children with all his heart and will do everything in his power to ensure they never endure the pain and loneliness he experienced growing up on the same island.

However, when he is summoned to give a public statement about his past, Arthur finds himself at the center of a storm that threatens to destroy the future of all magical beings--and his family.

The arrival of a new magical child, proud to identify as a monster, forces Arthur to realize that his family is at a crucial turning point: either it will grow stronger with this new presence, or it will collapse entirely.
