Service to the community means involvement, commitment, and engagement with the entire community, and that includes all of the parts, including police, fire schools, merchants, etc. Providing some law enforcement education to citizens about the total service mission of police work should be a goal for every police agency. Ensuring good service to the community means careful recruitment and personnel selection, for officers who will develop a prime focus on service first-service always. Training those carefully selected personnel on current case decisions, tactics, equipment, effective involvement in community affairs is service first and service always, and engaging all members of the community in serving each other is great service for the community.
