The Allies are struggling to cope with the chaotic circumstances of 14 million displaced persons traveling in all directions. Long before the identical chaos of modern-day Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, Germany and the rest of Europe have been torn asunder, many millions killed, tens of millions more wounded: devastation reigns and scavengers spew forth to further ravage the helpless.
