Criticism and repair

There has been a long-standing rift between our contemporary literary generations, and there has been a lot of talk about it at times, almost ending in something of a rift between the young and the older writers. Young people complain that the sheikhs of writers do not care about them, do not pay attention to them, do not pave the way for them to succeed, and do not introduce them to readers, as if they prefer themselves because of the high status and distance of their voice that is afforded to them. The elders complain about the youth that they are arrogant and overly proud of themselves, and they hardly appreciate the hardship the elders faced, the hardship they endured, and the punishment they endured. This disagreement between generations is natural and unsurprising, but in Egypt it is about to exceed what it should be. There is solidarity between generations that must be nurtured, and the rights of children over parents must be fulfilled. Parents, by nature, have come the farthest part, so they must help their children to succeed them, improve their succession, and achieve what they could not find a way to achieve. Taha Hussien
