1934 Mumbai
Bai looked out at the bay and sat in silence for a few long minutes.
Then she turned to Anil and said, "Well, if you're really determined to leave the farm, I may have a better way out."
She pointed to where the sun was setting over the glistening blue Arabian Sea and said, "That's where you should go."
Anil looked at her quizzically.
"To Africa," she said.
1974 Toronto
We landed in a city with streets covered in snow, trees bare of leaves, its sky grey.
It was a shocking contrast to Nairobi's towering eucalypti, green lawns and bougainvillea covered in brilliant sunshine.
