For over one hundred years the United States of America, the world's second constitutionally limited republic, has been moving in the same direction as Ancient Rome, the world's first constitutionally limited republic. In the beginning, the citizens controlled the republic, but as the Roman Senators grew in strength they grabbed more and more power until they turned Rome into a dictatorship. Now, with the election of Donald Trump, it looks like the United States will be moving back to the kind of constitutionally limited republic the founding fathers gave the citizens of this country.
