A Comprehensive Anthology of Hong Kong Literature comes in three parts or 12 volumes including modern poetry, prose, novel, criticism, traditional literature, popular literature and children's literature. Co-edited by 11 Hong Kong scholars and experts the book traces the source of Hong Kong literature and resurrects forgotten works written in early years of Hong Kong. The book selects prose between mid-1920s to 1941 when Hong Kong was occupied by Japan, most of which were originally published in literary supplements and journals. A small number of works were offprints. The authors included Xie Chenguang and Lv Lun who grew up locally as well as Mao Dun and Ye Lingfeng who were sojourners, expatriates or immigrants. While the former were indisputably "e;Hong Kong writers"e;, the latter also made contributions to the cultural environment and literary atmosphere in the city.As far as "e;Hong Kong literature"e; is concerned, we should not neglect either. This volume covers genres like belles letters, vignette, argumentive essay, feature and journalism, etc. on local subjects and beyond, in order to paint a complete picture of diverse forms of prose in early Hong Kong.
