Colne Through Time

Bonnie Colne upon the hill is a town whose antiquity reaches back into the mists of time. During the campaign of the Roman general Agricola in ad 79, Colne was first recorded and in the year 1120, the town received a Markets and Fairs Charter. By 1311, a fulling mill is producing woollen goods and by the year 1810, King Cotton had begun its reign, culminating in a total of fifty-three cotton mills being established during the Victorian era.Today, Second World War babies, Geoff Crambie and Colin Bean have witnessed, during their combined 140 years in Colne, truly astounding changes.
