In recent years, there has been a lot of talk in the manufacturing industry about digital transformation and data-driven manufacturing. But many companies struggle with how to implement data-driven manufacturing and how to achieve digital transformation. Many companies have implemented a team that supports a digital transformation called a Center of Excellence or CoE. But what are they achieving excellence at?

In his first book, MES: An Operations Management Approach (co-authored with Thomas Seubert), Vokey discussed using MES to support data-driven manufacturing as part of a company's digital transformation. In COE: The Key to Data-Driven Manufacturing, Vokey discusses the characteristics of manufacturing that make data-driven manufacturing the right management decision. He discusses building a CoE, developing the skills needed to achieve digital transformation, and taking the transformation beyond the manufacturing floor.
