Breaks in the Circuit

Stolen from his homeland, Zaccheus, now a designated slave, is captured on the high seas in 1808, a year after the abolition of the slave trade in Britain and begins a new life in Freetown, a Province of Freedom. He works hard and forges a decent life for himself, despite the expectation that the recaptives should assimilate a new way of life without any regard for what they believed in and held dear. He rises to become the trusted assistant of the village superintendent, but this is not well received by all members of the village community... Set against the backdrop of the historical background of the time, this is the story of the growth of Freetown and surrounding villages, his and others' struggles, under the control of the Administration.
