Birobidzhanskij dnevnik

Pavel Kushnir was a pianist and writer who died on 27 July 2024 in Birobidzhan pre-trial detention centre. The musician was detained on charges of public calls to terrorism because of anti-war videos he published on his YouTube channel. At the time of his detention, only five people were subscribed to the channel.

"Birobidzhan Diary" is Kushnir's latest and most personal text. The story of the Philharmonic soloist's everyday life is interspersed with sketches of the struggle of a lone anti-war activist, an extremely honest, educated and sensitive man whose fearlessness and convictions proved incompatible with life in Putin's Russia.
