Beyond the Handlebars

In 2004 our youngest graduated from high school. Bob and I got the bicycles down. We were empty nesters. What wonderful times we have enjoyed while riding trails in many states since the fall of 2004. All varieties of 'rigs', from recumbent to high wheelers, can be seen on the trails. A rider will see many sights, hear many sounds and smell many smells (good and bad), much of which is missed in auto travel. The trails we have ridden over the years are etched in our memories. A wonderful benefit of riding the trails has been the many people we have met. We have written here about some of the most memorable trails and encounters. We personally gained a strong sense of the country as it exists "beyond the handlebars".
