Beyond Spice

Zena Velloo John's debut poetry collection is interspersed with the visual artworks of Jayna Mistry, Kershnee Velloo, Raeesah Mahomed, Shaskia John and Shenaz Mahomed. Piercing the veil of invisibility, these six South African "Indian" women have created works to evoke individual and collective interpretation of their post-colonial and Indian-diasporic journey. These creative fragments voice the myriad dimensions of Being, from birth, through life and love, to death and beyond, overcoming challenges yet still touched by spiritual beauty.
