Lula Long led a life of unfulfilled dreams and abuse. A stunning, once vivacious Black woman found herself alone and destitute. Struggling to provide for her children, she saw no way out. In utter despair she turned to her best friend for help which came in the form of an unconventional arrangement; one that would impact many lives for years to come. Amid the restrictions and injustices of the Jim Crow south, she provided for her family, putting her physical safety and reputation at risk.
