Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The scene represents the beau's dressing-room. A cheerful room furnished more like a lady' s boudoir than a man' s dressing-room. A handsome dressing-table covered with a bewildering array of silver topped bottles stands at the lelt. A large cheval glass stands m front of a bay window opening out on a balcony. The curtains are open. The door at the back leads into the beau's bedroom. A table stands at one side with books and papers in precise order. A door at the left-hand side leads into an ante room where visitors are detained until the great man wishes to see them. Mortimer, the beau's valet and really confidential servant, is discovered sitting on sofa, head back, [ace covered with handkerchief; has evidently been asleep. It is about noon.
