Scarlette Gilmore is a Japanese sixteen year old girl living in England and was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She loves the creek at the back of her home. She calls it her little river, but before the summer vacation comes around it was invaded by a boy Scarlette never liked a boy before and the seventeen year old boy seems like trouble. Scarlette hated school; she does not communicates and speaks at all. Her mother gave her a diary in which she writes down all of her thoughts and what happened throughout the day. Carson is the new boy in the neighbourhood who invades her little river. Everyone thinks that he is a bad boy and a delinquent. Will he be Scarlette's friend? Scarlette learns that people who do not know about her autism will be mean to her and even if they know some might still be mean. Learning to live with it will be the hardest thing that she will ever have to do because she knows that she will never forget the way others treat her.
