American Welfare State

This book is an exploration of the development of the American social welfare state, focusing in particular on the American presidential administrations from Franklin Roosevelt to Lyndon Johnson (with a brief preview of the Nixon administration.)  Also, the focuses on the ideas and cultural values that have shaped the development of the American welfare state, not just the specific programs or lack of programs that have been enacted.
