Since 1961, when pain therapy was introduced by Bonica, the-re have been world-wide efforts to establish basic regimensfor the treatment of chronic pain. Yet many patients stillcontinue to suffer from intractable pain despite the availa-bility of effective treatment that would greatly improvetheir quality of life.
