Dancing five ramparts is also known as Wuchanghui or Tiaopusa; the ceremony was set up by ancient villagers on both sides of Xuhe River to dig Changxing Jingxi River and drain it to Guangde. In November 2014, dancing five ramparts in Anhui Dingbu (Meizhu Town, Langxi County, Anhui) was listed in the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects list with the approval of the State Council. There is a long history of folk "e;dancing five ramparts"e;, which is based on Chu culture and has the nature of Nuo opera to drive the sinister and embrace the auspicious. There are a large number of participants in the "e;five ramparts"e;. The props, covers, masks and costumes are all matched in red, blue, yellow, black and white. Their meanings respectively represent the five heavenly emperors in the East, South, West, North and Middle, and they also imply the colors of wood, fire, gold, water and earth. This book is composed of three parts: the paper "e;the five ramparts of Zhang Bo's belief ceremony"e;, the investigation report and the seventy questions of the five ramparts. It comprehensively and systematically introduces the historical origin, cultural connotation, popular area, ceremony overview, flow ceremony process and so on of the five ramparts in Meizhu Town, Langxi County, Anhui Province. It is the most systematic and comprehensive monograph introducing this cultural phenomenon at present. In addition, the manuscript also attached other national intangible cultural heritage projects of Meizhu Town, such as Jiangsu and Anhui Jiangfu society, Xiaoma lantern and gongs and drums. These cultural phenomena are not only related to but also different from dancing five ramparts, which helps to understand dancing five ramparts from another side, and also reflects the rich and diverse history and culture of Meizhu Town.
