A Scottish Family Tale 1650-1950

The beginning of the story opens a window into the lives of Scots living and working in Edinburgh in the 1600s. It then follows them and others to all points of the compass down three centuries with the most common thread being - Seafaring. It explores little-known impediments like Privateering and Impressment, it chronicles the hazards of Arctic Whaling, timelines the growth of the Scottish Mercantile Trade and benchmarks the strength of the camaraderie that is - life in the Merchant Navy. It explores the vagaries of maritime traditions and superstitions in order to gives a valid picture of the authentic lives of these Youngs and their seafaring community.
