A Friend of the Poor

The story of Saint Abraam, the Bishop of Fayum, teaches children the joy of giving. As you read through this story with your children it will inspire them to think of ways in which they can give to others and help those in need.

Alms giving or charity can take many forms; whether it is with money, effort, time, or simple acts of kindness. This book explains to children that when we help others and give with a cheerful heart, we come close to the heart of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

For children, this may be done by putting aside some pocket money for the poor, helping a friend in need, visiting homeless shelters with parents, or donating toys and clothes to worthy charities. Most importantly these acts of kindness must be done with a cheerful heart as "God loves a cheerful giver" 2 Corinthians 9:7
