A Dakota-English Dictionary (1852) is the seventh volume of a nine-part series Contributions to North American Ethnology (all available from Cosimo Classics). At the time, the Dakota language consisted of three well-defined dialects: the Santee, Yankton, and Teton. This is the most comprehensive lexicon available that lists all the words in their combined vocabularies and their English translations. This book offers a critical contribution to the history of Native Americans and is a must-read for anthropologists, linguists, and students of Native American history.
