A Bundle of Sticks

'A family is like a bundle of sticks,' said my father, referring to his large brood of children. 'If one breaks away the whole bundle disintegrates.' What happens when he removes one of the sticks and gives it away? Will his words turn out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy? This is the story of my childhood where family secrets stayed inside the front door.
